Transformation of one's identity as a way of communicating in a relationship. How the play of different "identities" and different "characteristics" of oneself, becomes a way of communicating in a couple. I was interested in exploring interior worlds that are made up of strings of private and national identities, played out in shifting social and cultural connotations. Ultimately, how these "symbols" of one self play a deeper role in the most intimate communication of a couple.

The beautiful thing of the dance in Under is to be found in the transformations. In two duets the saying ‘be yourself’ or, even more modern: ‘become yourself’ was put away as romantic nonsense in an almost nonchalant manner
