Weekly Contemporary Dance Classes for People Living with Parkinson’s 

Two weekly classes, which invites people living with Parkinson’s to dance in a playful, creative, non-judgemental and fun atmosphere, The classes are led by a variety of dance professionals, each leading 4 consecutive classes inspired by their practice and research, exposing participants to a variety of approaches which range from Contemporary to African Dance and from voice work to improvisation. Supporting the classes are a group of volunteers of different ages and backgrounds, some of which are dancers and dance therapists creating a multi-aged and diverse group of movers, where everyone is an expert of their own physical experience. Classes are held on Mondays 11:30-12:45 and Wednesdays 10:30-11:45 at the Yasmeen Godder Company’s Studio at the Mandel Cultural Center in Jaffa. The studio is accessible with an elevator and participants are invited to come early for coffee, tea and cookies 15 minutes before class.

Moving Communities grew out of  Störung/הפרעה – a unique interdisciplinary and collaborative project, in collaboration with Theatre Freiburg, Germany, which brought together professional dancers and choreographers with scientists and physicians – along with people with Parkinson’s from Israel and Germany – to explore different aspects of human movement and movement disorder. The year-long research, held in 2015-16,  led to a series of conferences and outcomes and also awarded Yasmeen Godder and Monica Gillette, the Shimon Peres Prize for contributing to German- Israel relations : “We wanted to open our artistic bubble and our sources of knowledge to other populations and realities, creating new forms of exchange and placing emphasis on well-being, creativity and joy through its communal experience,” For more information about Störung/הפרעה please visit our blog: www.hafraah.wordpress.com
