i feel funny today
"i feel funny today" takes place in a room and probes the relationship of a man and a woman and two imaginary figures. Darkly comic games disguise harsh miscommunication, as the couple attempts at holding on to a “perfect moment”. The couple’s interaction in the company of these two illusory figures , brings about extreme states of mind as boundaries blur between reality and play.

The most daring, difficult dance is the Israeli choreographer Yasmeen Godder's I Feel Funny Today. Here Grove and Clinkard lurch between haunted anxiety and gurning dementia to a hatefully loud score by Haino Keiji. The result is either brave or foolhardy.
(Donald Hutera, http://entertainment.timesonline.co.uk/tol/arts_and_entertainment/stage/dance/article3320014.ece )
With the thumping rhythm of Haino Keiji and the stark lighting of Jackie Shemesh, I Feel Funny Today left an indelible mark on the memory, quickly dropping us into the realms of surrealism as both dancers gave a disturbing, nightmarish performance that at times was as dazzling as it was bemusing.
(Chris High, http://www.thestage.co.uk/reviews/review.php/19722/magpie)
"The occasion of Yasmeen Godder’s “i feel funny today”(2002) is nothing special: a dowdy woman sits and knits outside the stage’s red borderline and dreams up the man and woman who are dancing a rough, frightened duet at its center. But the dance is haunting because the imaginary lovers seem to know about the woman who has invented them. In fact, it is she they are afraid of. Godder, raised in Israel, blurs the line between dreamer and dreamed, subject and object, outcast and member of the tribe – distinctions, she implies, that may be as much a mind game as the knitter’s daydream itself."
[Appolinaire Scherr, NYFA Journal 2001]
"…highly specific and detailed movement …. this is a wonderful and impressive duet."
[Rachel Bilski-Cohen, Dance Now Magazine 2000]
"For a perversely smart dance novella, with characters shocked into un-ordinary life, discombobulated yet intensely and impossibly connected, all underscored in powerful movement and riveting design "
[the Bessie Award committee description 2002]
"the tension that can be called "physical politics" shows her extraordinary talent as a choreographer" (Tatsuro Ishii, Japanese Dance Magazing 2007)

• PERFORMANCE
Performance's Length:
About 45 minutes, no intermission.
• STAGE
Proportions and Fly systems:
The stage is between 12 to 14 meters and 9 meters deep.
Note: The proportions and bars listed are the ideal measures but negotiable.
Stage Look and Masking:
The stage look is an "open" (naked) one, with no masking (neither borders nor legs). The walls - side and back - can be seen.
In case the side/back walls are too far or not suitable for the performance, then side/back masking (made of black curtains) is necessary. Please prepare 3 borders to hide the light and 3 black curtains of 6 meters high (at least) and 12 meters long (at least) for a case masking is necessary. All the soft goods should be made of cotton (no velvet curtains please).
Please note that in any case when the stage size is bigger than 15 meters wall to wall and the back wall is farther than 12 meters, closing the stage should be taken into calculation of soft goods and stage technicians.
Stage Setup:
The stage consists of a set of wings that built a long wall (approx 7.20 Meter) and a couple of wings for a mini wall, next to the chair for the actor, the Fluorescents on the floor and a wool knitted red stripe.
Dance Floor:
Black linoleum floor covering the whole dancing area.
The stage must be made of wooden sprung floor.
Lighting:
The lights are hanged at about 6 6.5 meters high.
The front of house light bridge should be at about 3 4 meters from the front of stage and not more then 7 meters high.
All the fluorescent lights are placed on the floor. The fluorescent lights are placed inside white painted wooden housing boxes. The Presenter has to construct the wooden housing. Sketches will be sent upon request and as part of the technical liaison.
Special Note:
Please do not pre-hang any of the lighting or soft goods prior to the arrival of the technical manager to the venue.
