Simple Action

SIMPLE ACTION – A Participatory Choreographic Action Inspired by Stabat Mater

In Simple Action, Yasmeen Godder and her company continue their research into performance as a space for connection, inviting audiences to encounter themselves and others, both as individuals and as a collective. The work explores empathy, identification, and sensorial experience in real time, transforming spectatorship into lived participation.

The piece engages with themes of care, trust, and embodied encounter, drawing the audience into a shared experiential field where perception, presence, and relationship become central elements of the choreography.

Commissioned in response to Stabat Mater, the renowned Christian hymn, the work resonates with the visual imagery of the pièta, evoking themes of holding, support, and vulnerability. The performance features an original live musical composition by musician and singer Tomer Damsky, whose hypnotic interpretation deepens the immersive and ritualistic atmosphere of the work.

Simple Action takes place inside a pastel-colored tent created by visual artist Gili Avissar, a long-time collaborator of Godder, and features a special light installation by visual artist and lighting designer Omer Sheizaf.

SIMPLE ACTION is a production of The Jack, Joseph & Morton Mandel Cultural Center, directed by Ingi Rubin as part of the Opera & Dance program. STABAT MATER was commissioned by B-Motion Festival 2016; With thanks to Beit Uri and Rami Nehostan Museum
